According to the policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact information a domain name is registered with must be valid and accurate all the time. Moreover, this info is freely available on WHOIS websites and while this may be OK for corporations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, since anybody can see their names and their personal street and email addresses, particularly in an age when identity fraud is not that rare. Because of this, domain registrars have introduced a service that conceals the details of their clients without changing them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. In case it is active, people will view the details of the registrar company, not those of the domain owner, if they perform a WHOIS search. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic domain extensions, but it’s still not possible to hide your personal details with some country-code ones.

Whois Privacy Protection in Cloud Hosting

If you’ve ordered a cloud hosting package from us and you’ve registered one or more domain names under your account, you will be able to activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of them without difficulty and to keep your personal details secure. Of course, this will be possible only with the extensions that support this service. In your Hepsia Control Panel, you’ll find an “Whois Privacy Protection” logo to the right of each of your domain names. Its color will tell you whether a domain name is Whois Privacy Protected or not and in the second case, you can enable Whois Privacy Protection with only a few clicks of the mouse. In this way, you can protect your private information even if you have not activated the service during the registration process. You will be able to renew or to deactivate the Whois Privacy Protection service for any of your domains just as easily.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Ordering Whois Privacy Protection for any domain is astonishingly easy in case you have a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain name is registered through our company, it will be displayed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel that is included with each and every semi-dedicated plan. In case a given generic or country-code domain supports Whois Privacy Protection, you will notice a mini symbol on its right. To activate the service, you will have to click on it. In the exact same way, you can also renew or deactivate the service. You can enable Whois Privacy Protection for a domain during the account activation procedure too, but since the Whois Privacy Protection service is optional, we’ll offer you the opportunity to add it to any of your domain names at a later time if you think things over and decide to hide your personal info from the public after you have already ordered the account.
